Lab 1: Compare and Contrast the Sony Walkman and the Apple IPOD
Technology has definitely come a long way over the years. I has enabled us to do things fast, easy and more convenient. One good example of the new wave technology is the evolution of portable music players, back when it was first introduced by Sony and now the Apple IPod which has introduced a more personalized listening experience. The Sony walkman and the Apple IPOD are two technologies with the same purpose but different take on innovation.
Sony Walkman -Did not pay much attention on design ( “Boxy” look) -Uses head phones -Mechanical(representation of that age) -Magnetic field -Uses cassette ( music tends to be limited to one artists and songs) -Too many buttons to select ( making it harder for new users) -“branding” evident with the word “Sony” written on the walkman
Apple IPOD -Simple, sleek and attractive design -One central button making it easy to use -Uses ear buds making it more discreet -Uses the sense of touch technology (click wheel) -More personal ( music selection and is not limited to 12 songs) -User feedback ( i.e “click sound” when selecting a command) -Screen (making it easier to music selection) -User is the brand -More convenient to carry (user centered approach) -Hardware -The flexibility provided by the iTunes software and service that allows you to try and download any music and video with the click of a button from any computer or the Internet to your iPod.
